Self Catering

Self Catering is for the tourist interested in a stay longer than a couple of days. It is a way of making a home away from home, where one can cook and live to a schedule of ones own making rather than being conscious of other people sharing the same accommodation. Without a doubt, self catering is perfect for families, especially those with young children, allowing them the freedom to explore and use the surrounding garden as their very own play area. The self-catering homes in this website are of a very high standard and are officially vetted.

Looking toward Valentia island - Padraig SandsStaying anywhere within the Reserve guarantees that if you are not in the Core Zone that you are less than a 10 minute drive/walk away from one, almost as if you are booking two holidays – the day one and the night one. The day activities all take place within a stunning landscape of hills, islands, rivers, lakes, ocean and valleys. The night-time activities take place under a canopy of pure dark sky that light pollution has little or no impact upon. STARGAZING GUIDE
Stargazing in the kerry dark sky reserve Michael Sheehan

To fully maximize the experience of viewing our Dark-Sky you should consider hiring a Stargazing Guide (private visits can be arranged at your holiday home for parties and Bar-B-Que’s). PLEASE consider the position of the Moon. There are actually on seven nights in any one month that one can view a dark sky, the rest of the nights are influenced by the Moon’s powerful light. Or maybe you might consider hiring a Heritage Guide … it’s YOUR holiday – go make the most of it.
