The parish of Dromid - photo J. Ormonde

Dromid (‘Forbairt na Dromoda’) is based in Killeenleagh. This is a collection of community-based projects including a service to care for the elderly, childcare, community hall, business units, a wind farm and Dromid Hostel. Separate to these ventures is the school, shop and pub.

STARGAZING:  Although a large area of Dromid is marked inside the Core Zone of the KerryIDSR tourist map (available to download here) public parking is restricted to the village which is lit by the orangey glow of street lights. The best Stargazing  point is up at a small public car parking area near Balagh Oisin; though the lights of passing cars can be distracting as well as dangerous, hence visiting astronomers prefer to practice their Stargazing in other areas nearer to the coastline where the large expanse of sky is matchless and public car parking is safe and big enough to contain many cars, even buses.
